Research Computational Capabilities
The laboratory is equipped with four dedicated Dell Alienware Aurora R16-class high-performance workstations, each featuring an Intel® Core™ i9-14900KF processor with 24 cores and boost speeds up to 6.0 GHz, 64 GB of DDR5 memory operating at 5200 MT/s, an NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 4090 GPU with 24 GB of GDDR6X graphics memory, and a 4 TB PCIe NVMe solid-state drive. These systems support medical-image processing, finite-element modeling, musculoskeletal simulation, computer-aided design, artificial intelligence, machine learning, deep learning, and large-scale biomechanical analysis. The laboratory’s software environment includes Materialise Mimics and 3-matic for medical-image segmentation and three-dimensional anatomical model generation, DSI Studio and MRtrix for diffusion-MRI analysis, Autodesk Fusion 360 for CAD design, ANSA, META, and EPILYSIS for computer-aided engineering, and ANSYS and LS-DYNA for multiphysics and nonlinear finite-element simulation. Researchers also have access to the University of Florida’s HiPerGator supercomputing infrastructure, a large-scale cluster-based system with approximately 70,000 CPU cores. HiPerGator AI includes an NVIDIA DGX A100 SuperPOD with approximately 17,000 cores and 1,120 NVIDIA Ampere A100 GPUs, each equipped with 80 GB of GPU memory, and is connected through a high-speed InfiniBand network. The system provides more than 25 petabytes of distributed storage through the Lustre parallel file system, along with approximately 3.2 petabytes of storage supporting the Compact Muon Solenoid high-energy physics collaboration. Additional GPU resources include approximately 560 NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti GPUs and 48 NVIDIA Quadro RTX 6000 GPUs. Together, the laboratory workstations and HiPerGator resources provide substantial computational capacity for digital-twin development, medical-image analysis, finite-element and musculoskeletal modeling, GPU-accelerated simulation, artificial intelligence, model optimization, large-scale data processing, and advanced research and teaching.
