Subject-specific brain modelling using in-vivo mechanical properties
In this project, we proposed to utilize magnetic resonance elastography (MRE) to characterize the hyperviscoelastic material properties of brain tissue in vivo. MRE-derived displacement and wave-field data are incorporated into an inverse finite element framework, in which the brain constitutive parameters are iteratively adjusted to minimize the difference between experimentally measured and model-predicted tissue responses. The identified material parameters are then used to define subject-specific brain mechanical behavior within finite element models, enabling more physiologically representative simulations of brain deformation, stress, and strain under dynamic loading conditions. This approach provides a non-invasive framework for estimating brain tissue mechanics and for investigating how variations in material properties associated with age, injury, or other physiological factors may influence the biomechanical response of the brain.
