Virtual Reality (VR) System
The Meta Quest Pro virtual-reality system provides an immersive platform for interactive simulation, visualization, training, and education. The laboratory is developing realistic virtual firefighter environments that allow participants to experience emergency-response scenarios, hazardous conditions, limited visibility, complex navigation, and decision-making tasks in a safe and controlled setting. Researchers can systematically modify fire conditions, environmental hazards, task demands, and user interactions while monitoring cognitive, physical, and behavioral responses. The system can also be integrated with EEG, EMG, fNIRS, eye tracking, motion capture, and physiological sensors to support research on firefighter performance, stress, fatigue, situational awareness, hazard perception, ergonomics, and human–computer interaction. In addition to research applications, the virtual-reality environment will be used for educational purposes, giving students opportunities to explore emergency scenarios, practice decision-making, understand human factors, and gain hands-on experience with immersive simulation technologies.
